Exhibitor Spotlight - Secret Location

Our next exhibitor, Secret Location uses Virtual Reality to completely change the way that stories are told. They are an Emmy Award winning content studio that uses storytelling to launch products and solve problems. For the release of Insidious 3, they created an interactive 4D horror experience that left people with their heart racing. With Virtual Reality, viewers can immerse themselves into the story instead of watching it from behind a 2D screen.

They are also responsible for launching VUSR, a publishing tool that allows content creators to distribute VR content across all platforms. They will be demoing the capabilities of VUSR on Friday for industry day. On Saturday and Sunday they will be showcasing their bullet hell VR game, Blasters of the Universe. We can't wait to check it out!

The Story Behind CVR's Logo

The story behind the origin of the CVR logo is something we haven’t told before. Today, we’re going to cover how the logo came to be, what it represents and its significance. From the beginning, our mission has been to share the experience of VR with as many people as we can. We wholeheartedly believe that VR is a transformative technology that will change the way we live, and do business.

Trying virtual reality for the first time, is a once-in-a-lifetime experience. Often we find users are overwhelmed with a feeling of childlike wonder, and genuinely impressed with how advanced the technology is. With VR, AR, and MR the possibilities are endless. Archiact wants to bring immersive experiences of the highest calibre to the world with the CVR conference and expo.

We kept that in mind when designing the CVR logo because it is you that we want to represent: The blue circle and the “C” in CVR is a side-profile of a person wearing a VR headset. The “C” is the lens and the empty space in the circle is the headband.

That person is you, whether you’re a first-time user or a VR enthusiast, we wanted to highlight how important YOU are to the VR movement. Our dream is that everyone will be able to experience VR and realize the potential it has for completely revolutionizing our world.

CVR 2017 will be much bigger than last year with over 3x the space, we will have the latest in VR, AR, and MR. We can’t wait to see you there and show you what we have in store!

5 Reasons Why VR & AR Are Reshaping Education

Confucious once said "Tell me and I will forget, show me and I may remember, involve me and I will understand". His words still ring true in the 20th century as the challenge for educators to keep their students engaged in an increasingly digital world grows. However, with the development of virtual reality (VR) and augmented reality (AR) technologies, a solution to this challenge may have been found. Many companies and educational institutes have already realized the educational potential of VR and AR, and have begun to work together to develop this area.

At their 2015 I/O Developer Conference, Google announced the launch of ‘Expeditions’, an app that lets teachers create virtual school trips using the company’s Cardboard virtual reality viewer. Since the launch, Google Expeditions Pioneer Programme has visited over 200,000 students in the UK alone and offers over 400 expeditions for students to access. Schools in the US are also incorporating VR and AR. Students in the San Francisco Unified School District and Polk County Public Schools in Florida are using VR technology to send classes on over 25 virtual field trip lessons that offer first-person tours of the ancient pyramids of Egypt, the caves on Easter Island, the marine biomes of the Great Barrier Reef, Mars, patriotic landmarks across the U.S., and much more!

These examples are just the tip of the iceberg. The development of VR and AR for education is growing rapidly. Here are 5 ways VR and AR can reshape education and training:

  1. Educate Across Distances - VR and AR technology has made it possible to educate students across distances. L’Oréal USA recently announced a virtual reality training program for salon stylists. Instead of traveling across the country for trainings or watching two-dimensional YouTube videos, stylists will be able to learn new styling techniques with a VR headset. The L’Oréal VR training program features a stylist and a client. Students wearing VR headsets can take on the stylist’s role and watch the process or technique being taught from any angle.

  2. Accessibility To Challenging Locations - VR offers accessibility to experiences and locations that might not otherwise be accessible for educators and their students. For example, Google’s Expeditions offers classes a peek into Edinburgh Castle, viking settlements, and the day in the life of a surgeon while Immersive VR Education offers an Apollo 11 Experience where students experience the launch from the perspective of the astronauts.

  3. Engage Students and Improve Retention - VR and AR technologies help students learn by living and experiencing the subject for themselves, whether it be a virtual tour of the White House or performing a virtual surgery. VR and AR’s customizable nature allow students to be placed in any situation, where the outcome of the situation can change depending on the student’s actions/choice. This creates an environment of active learning for students. Furthermore, with a headset on, there are no outside distractions that may take away student’s attention. According to Immersive VR Education, simulation allows students to retain more information than traditional teaching methods due to its practical nature, as more senses are involved in the same learning experience. Students who learn best through seeing will find this style of learning as beneficial as students who learn best through hearing or doing.

  4. Improve Effectiveness of Training & Reduce Costs - VR is ideal for creating realistic simulations that help students or employees prepare for real life scenarios. The U.S Navy created an air-to-air combat simulation for their fighter pilots with this intention in mind. Their simulation puts pilots inside a highly detailed F-18 fighter jet cockpit flying over the ocean. Pilots must determine from the sounds and information coming across the cockpit radar and displays whether there is an aggressor aircraft in range and how to take it out with a missile. One VR station can train a soldier for multiple combat scenarios including driving a tank, reacting under gun fire or reloading a rocket launcher. Accurate training experiences mean soldiers can learn faster, better, and less expensively.

  5. Gamify Learning - VR and AR can immerse students that are used to playing games. Because virtual worlds are so customizable, gamification elements can be added to any situation so that students not only learn, but also have fun.

The potential educational applications for VR and AR are enormous and beyond what is listed here. The best way to learn more about VR and AR is to try the technology for yourself and see how others in the industry are using it. Attend CVR 2017 and experience the diverse applications of this technology through the dozens of demos. Hear from industry experts and see how they are applying VR, AR, and MR to improve their organizations. Industry Passes are 50% off until Dec 15, 2016! Get passes for you and your team before they are gone!

Top Ways VR & AR Are Transforming Architecture, Real Estate, & Interior Design

“VR”, “Virtual Reality”, and “AR” are buzzwords that have been popping up lately. While these technologies are often associated with gaming, their application in Architecture, Construction, and Design is promising. In fact, Forbes recently announced VR would revolutionize real estate and Goldman Sachs has estimated that by 2020, 130,00 real estate agents will be using VR. The application of VR and AR in real estate is predicted to generate an impressive $750 million revenue by 2020, and $2.6 billion in 2025.

Around the world, organizations have begun to embrace the technology and integrate it into their business processes. Here are 5 ways VR and AR are transforming Architecture, Real Estate, and Interior Design.

  1. Build An Emotional Connection With Customers - With VR, AR, and MR, clients are no longer restricted to using pictures, 3D models, or videos to imagine what their unbuilt home may look like. They are immersed in their future home, down to the details of the trees, bricks, and tiles. They can see the space, walk around in it, and imagine themselves and their loved ones in it. By increasing the client’s immersion, developers can increase client’s emotional connection to the space.
  2. Reduce Geographical Limitations & Reach International Customers - VR content can be accessed around the world. In 2015, Sotheby’s International Realty reported using VR to sell luxury homes to customers. VR not only removes the time spent in traffic traveling from house to house for viewings, but also allows buyers in Asia and Europe to view homes before flying in to finalize a deal. Furthermore, with Google’s new Google Earth VR experience, clients can now not only walk around a house they are interested in, they can explore their potential new neighbourhoods.

  3. Prevent Construction Mistakes - Andrew Reeves, Architect and Principal Partner at Linebox, explains that the architect-client interaction offered in virtual reality can prevent mistakes on the construction site, ultimately saving time and money. His company brings in their manufacturing partners and walks them through the VR version of unbuilt houses to communicate the vision, instead of using black and white drawings which can be open to interpretation.

  4. Offer Accurate Interior Design - Ashley Furniture Industries, the world’s largest manufacturer of furniture and North America’s largest furniture retailer, announced recently that they are pursuing a company-wide virtual reality (VR) and augmented reality (AR) strategy to enable consumers to create interior layouts and experience living spaces in 3D. Their augmented reality shopping app will help shoppers see how home furnishings fit into an existing space. Furthermore, in-store virtual reality tech bars will allow shoppers to design and visualize their bedrooms, dining rooms or living rooms.

  5. View Customizations Immediately - Virtual reality is a flexible technology. As Andrew Reeves, Architect and Principal Partner at Linebox, explains one of the best parts of VR is being able to ask for changes to the windows, floors, or bricks in an experience and to see the results the next day.

The advantages created through VR and AR allow Relators, Architects, Contractors, and Interior Designers to increase sales, improve customer relationships, and prevent mistakes - ultimately creating time and money savings.

The best way to learn more about VR and AR is to try the technology for yourself and see how others in the industry are using it! Attend CVR 2017 (May 5 - 7) and experience the diverse applications of this technology through the dozens of demos. Hear from industry experts and see how they are applying VR, AR, and MR to improve their organizations. Industry Passes are 50% off until Dec 15, 2016! Limited quantities available.
